#GetThatJagLook: Challenging the Binibinis

normannorman.com was able to cover two groups of Binibinis at Festival Mall Alabang and Robinsons Place Manila

 
The Binibinis were divided into four groups of ten to be scattered in four different shopping malls around Metro Manila. I only had myself and my partner-in-pageantry Joy Arguil for normannorman.com so we decided to split ourselves between Festival Mall Alabang (which was closer to where I live) and Robinsons Place Manila (more convenient for Joy coming from Makati). As a result, we had to skip SM North EDSA and Farmers Plaza Cubao. But it was still worth it.

I had Maria Gigante, Maxine Medina, Kylie Verzosa, Apriel Smith, Vina Openiano, Paula Rich Bartolome, Edjelyn Joy Gamboa, Angela Fernando, Ria Rabajante and Gail Ventic. Joy had Nicole Cordoves, Kristine Estoque, Sheena Dalo, Jehza Huelar, Niza Limjap, Mariella Castillo, Candy del Castillo, Maria Lina Prongoso, Crescent Samaco and Kimberle Mae Penchon.

The challenge was simple. Whichever group can raise the highest amount of total sales for a prescribed hour (by being the actual sales associates) will win a generous shopping voucher for each member of the best performing team.

Early feedbacks that reached my end stated that the ladies at Farmers Plaza Cubao got the highest so far, but I still need confirmation.

All in all, though, it was an enjoyable, albeit tiring, day for all the Bb. Pilipinas 2016 Official Candidates.:-)

The Best of the Bb. Pilipinas 2016 National Costumes

And so, six (6) instead of five were announced as the top National Costumes of Bb. Pilipinas 2016. They are Binibini 14 Paula Rich Bartolome who wore a Filipiniana by Joel Acebuche, Binibini 38 Angelica Alita in a traje de mestiza by Bessie Besana, Binibini 3 Angela Lauren Fernando in another Filipiniana created by Frederick Peralta, Binibini 27 Dindi Pajares in a nicely-conceptualized Bagobo/Manoba garb by Cherry Veric, Binibini 19 Maria Lina Prongoso in a collaboration between Polly Lagyap & Mayor Madelaine Gazmen and Binibini 32 Jennyline Carla Malpaya in yet another Filipiniana.

So the question is: will these traditional or indigenous attires be the ones worn by the eventual Bb. Pilipinas 2016 titleholders in their international competitions? And more interestingly, will a Top 6 confirm somehow that there will indeed be six (6) titles at stake on April 17?

But which NatCos stood out the most in terms of brave and daring? It’s the Ati-atihan-inspired number of Rocky Gathercole worn by Binibini 17 Priscilla Kim dela Cruz (see photo below courtesy of Jojo Bragais).

The Bb. Pilipinas 2016 batch has such a deep bench to get winners from. The likelihood of winning is promising for a good majority, and that includes Binibini 14 Paula Rich Bartolome who is on her 2nd – and hopefully more successful – attempt to take home a crown. In my humble and honest opinion, she has greater chances of doing so compared to the initial turn made last year.

To say that Paula Rich is firmly setting her sights on a victory and not go empty-handed would be an understatement. No serious Binibini entered into this crowded beauty scenario without the iron-clad determination to be well-recognized, especially now that six (6) titles are up for grabs.

Will Binibini 14’s hometown of Narvacan, Ilocos Sur celebrate this coming Sunday night well into the following day? I’d say, why not? As Paula herself said during a previous interview, she came more prepared this year. And her loyal fans and supporters (shout-out to the #PowerPau members out there) are united more than ever. Rally to the max!

You might have already forgotten about the online voting for your Favorite National Costume, so let this be a gentle reminder to keep the likes (or votes, if you will) coming for the six finalists for the said special award.

Of course, it does work to the advantage of whoever has the strongest supporters among Binibinis Angela Fernando, Paula Rich Bartolome, Maria Lina Prongoso, Dindi Pajares, Jonti Martinez and Angelica Alita. But try going beyond the Binibinis wearing them as well so you can fully appreciate the creations of Designers Frederick Peralta, Joel Acebuche, Polly Lagyap, Cherry Samuya Veric, Jonti Martinez and Bessie Besana.

Paula Rich Bartolome for Miss Model of the World 2016

And you thought you saw the last of Paula Rich Bartolome during Bb. Pilipinas 2016? Think again. This tall lady who represented Narvacan, Ilocos Sur during the last edition of the nationals will see action as the Philippine representative to the Miss Model of the World 2016 to be held in Shenzhen City, China from October 16 – November 6.

Ovette Ricalde of MegaStarnProduction is responsible for sending Paula to this competition. And I believe that we have a good chance of performing well in Shenzhen. Our bet is raring to prove her worth in the international pageant arena and this should be the best time to do so.

Currently in the thick of competition in Shenzhen, China right now is former Bb. Pilipinas Official Candidate Paula Rich Bartolome who is one of the candidates vying for the 28th Miss Model of the World International which will have its finals this coming November 7. She is Miss Model of the World Philippines 2016.

Paula Rich knows too well the rigors and demands of a tough beauty competition, having been part of two editions of Bb. Pilipinas – 2015 and 2016. And with the opportunity given to her by Ovette Ricalde to represent our country in the big pageant stage, she will not let the opportunity to shine slip past her grasp. Her overall look has been changed to fit the modelesque peg that the contest calls for. And with a statuesque frame (she stands just a shade under 5’10”), svelte figure and expressive face, I see no reason why she won’t make heads turn in Shenzhen. She is giving it her 100% best and hopefully add another achievement in the long list of wins and placements of World-Class Filipinas this year.

Let us all wish Paula Rich the best. She is doing this #ForThePhilippines. While China is not the most giving host country for our bets when it comes to pageantry, I still know that she will stand out when it matters most.
